My first twibe

A few days ago I joined my very first Twitter group or ‘twibe’, namely the anthropology twibe (pop. 77), and I’m very excited about the possibilities of this social innovation. The twibe seems rather quiet for now but who knows, we may find ways of invigorating it.

One thing we can say outright: there is no other social formation out there quite like a twibe, for it is embedded in the Twitter platform. The same ethnographic argument that Boellstorff (2008) makes about the virtual world Second Life applies here: to understand Twitter and its cybersociality we must study it from within, in its own right.
